Each of us is made in the image of God and each of us are fearfully and wonderfully made. And each of us is called to be part of the mission and ministry of the church, regardless of our embodiment and anything that our society might label as disability or difference.
The Church of England has an aspiration to become more diverse so as to reflect more fully the diversity in society. The presence of disabled and neurodivergent people within every ministry and area of the church’s work is essential to making this happen. In this event we want to encourage people who might feel that for some reason their embodiment would be a barrier to ministry, to begin a journey of exploration and discernment.
This event is an opportunity to hear from:
· Richard Atkinson – the Bishop of Bedford and chair of the Committee for the Ministry of and amongst Deaf and Disabled People (CMDDP)
· Ann Memmott – a lecturer, trainer and researcher on autism
· Haydon Spenceley – Director of Ordinands and Director of Vocations and Formations for the Diocese of Peterborough and a wheelchair user - as he shares his vocation story
- Disabled and neurodivergent people in ministry
Bishop John will be in attendance and there will be opportunities to join breakout groups to ask questions and get further information.
